It is quite interesting to me to see open-source models applied to other
fields. The idea of open-source bond ratings is compelling. Not only is
the model open-source, but the software is too.

Of course Value-At-Risk (VaR) was widely implemented if not explicitly
open-source.
It's an interesting concept to consider if making something open-source
will allow it to succeed *and* provide some copyright protection, given
how quickly ideas in finance tend to spread through simple copying.
