[UFO Chicago] screen resolution and Windows share drives for X/ubuntu

Finally took the plunge and installed Xubuntu on my media box in the living room. 

Does Xubuntu have GUIs to adjust settings ? Like network settings (DHCP vs static, etc) and screen resolution ? Haven't been able to find anything in the menus so far. Didn't find anything on Ubuntu forums either. 

The last big hurdle is to access a Windows XP shared drive from Xubuntu. Can I do this without setting up Samba ? Please say yes......
