Special Weather Statement for Chicago, Illinois

Statement as of 6:00 am CDT on July 30, 2001

For north central and northeast Illinois and northwest Indiana.

There are no thunderstorms forecast for the region today or tonight.

Patchy morning fog is the most imminent threat. The heavier fog
below a quarter mile is much more scattered than yesterday and
should begin burning off by 800 am.

High pressure stretching from New England to the upper Ohio Valley
the next few days will be responsible for an increasing southerly
flow of warmer and more humid air. As a consequence...an excessive
heat watch is in effect for the 8 county chicagoland area for
Tuesday and Wednesday for heat indices possibly reaching or
exceeding 105 degrees.
