I don't do the multicast thing, but I have used it on and off for a
few years. love it. btw, it is a live debian cd with a bunch of disk
and fs utilities, so handy thing to have around.
if you add some kernel params it will boot up an ssh server so that
you can work on machines remotely.

I've a perl program that takes a list of hosts, and builds a recursive tree of sync targets and uses ssh to call rsync for replication. The first host is the initial "seed", which is used to populate a client. One a client is done, it becomes a seed host, and can accept other clients.
