You might be able to get a Y-adapter cable with RCA plugs on one end and a stereo mini plug on the other and plug it into the DVD player and the "line in" jack on your computer's audio device then record using Audacity or another program of your choice.

I have a DVD that I have owned for years. I no longer need/care to see
the image, and would just like to pull the audio portion and transport it
to another device. Sound quality is not a top priority for me.
Short of holding a microphone in front of the speaker, is there a way to
capture the audio stream?
