Do you know what they weigh?
Also, the keyboard has to be more friendly to use than an iPhone or Blackberry for longer notes.

I played with one of the first eeepcs a bit. The biggest problem was
the keyboard not being standard size. It made it a horrible pain to
type on. I don't know if you could get used to that or not.
I'd recommend getting a refurbished 'utra-portable' laptop, like the
Thinkpad X-series.
