The scope of our mailing list is pretty open, so we have not punished or
held a hard line on these types of things in the past. I would throw a
fit (and have) if they break the culture of a mailing list:
  - html posting
  - jobs that don't have Linux or open source included
  - include MS Word submissions, etc.

I do get a notification each time someone subscribes, and this guy
followed the rules: he subscribed, politely posted his on-topic search,
and then disappeared.

Since this is one of the few times I've seen this happen in my history of
UFO, I'm non-plussed about it. If this were a list for writing
open-source device drivers for Nintendo hardware, I'd think it was over
the line. Since we have an (intentionally) broad scope, it was OK.

If seeing postings like this is a problem for you, then there are plenty
of other fora for discussing open source operating systems. Otherwise,
you can expect that the handful of these we get a year will be allowed.
