I mentioned Erlang at the last meeting, a language for concurrent 
programming.  It is by Ericsson (Nate guessed right), and used in 
embedded telecommunication systems since around 1988.  Neil should be 
ashamed not to know of it!  There's more information at 
http://erlang.org -- Debian includes an erlang package for the 
interested.
