[UFO Chicago] pcmcia modems -- any recommendations

I prefer to think of hardware components being "created" as Locke said
with a tabula rasa. In this case this Xircom 56K*win*Global modem
cannot be faulted for being conceived w/o a hardware controller. It
did in its limited capacity perform well (under windows) and only
failed to transcend into linux when the evil Intel/Xircom demon
withheld the card specs so the open source programmers could offer
salvation(linux driver) for this poor soul.
In any case I feel this piece of hardware did nothing in its life to
taint it and as a reward may return(recycle) as a more productive
silicon component
