Pocket Linuxers:
Pocket Linux as developed through the first three chapters might be
termed the base Pocket Linux. The minimal amount of software has been
developed to have a system. Fromthere the sky is the limit. The rest of
Pocket Linux adds programs found in conventional distros.
What about starting from Chapter Three to have specialized systems. What
interests me is the minimum amount of software to write, compile and
execute programs. One needs a text editor, compiler and libraries, but
what else? I will find out at least for the C programming language.
Another possibility is X Window Pocket Linux. Again the goal is the
minimum software beyond Chapter 3 to have a working X Window System -
just the herringbone screen to start. Admittedly one is pushing the
concept of Pocket Linux in terms of floppy disks, but what if we add
those keychain USB storage devices to the list of permissible hardware.
Two floppies in the pocket and a keychain storage.
The wholeidea is to under Linux by decomposing it into the smallest
working parts for a task.
Any comments would be gratefully appreciated.
Regards, Rick
