[UFO Chicago] UFO Chicago September In-Person Meeting

The context of the following statement, for those of you who have not
been following, is that someone -- as represented by James ("Jim")
Mazurek, the guy didn't post anything himself -- wanted to move this
Sunday's UFO meeting to some place in Schaumburg, because it was
closer to some unrelated event that was also happening in Schaumburg,
or thereabouts, that the guy wanted to go to. I stated that taking
public transportation to Schaumburg (on a Sunday yet) was inconvenient
for me (not an exact quote, I said "bloody inconvenient") but I didn't
mind moving this Sunday's meeting to September 15 or even September 22
or 29. Jim Mazurek then wrote, on Tue Sep 3 09:11:05 2024:

>
> Rather than spending time potentially going back and forth on this
> subject, I will state:
>
> I am not the boss of anything and no meeting requires my presence. I
> am only a single club member who has taken on a role of organizing

First of all, I totally understand Jim's unwillingness to continue to
act as an intermediary between this mailing list, and some guy who
doesn't want to post anything to this mailing list but wants Jim to
represent his position on it.

Second of all, and more to the point, I am reminded of the dialog in
Henry IV, Part 1, Act 3, scene 1:

Glendower: I can call spirits from the vasty deep.
Hotspur: Why, so can I, or so can any man; But will they come when
           you do call for them?

So, I could accept Jim's invitation to assume the role of organizing
this group's meetings. But just because I (or any other man) proclaim
myself to be the meeting organizer, and proclaim that the next
in-person meeting will take place on September 15, or September 22, or
September 29, doesn't mean that anyone will pay any attention to what
I (or any other man) proclaim.

So this is what I think. I think that if one or more of our in-person
regulars (of which there are only 4 or 5) want to go to Schaumburg, or
wherever, this Sunday, then that's cool, and let's have our in-person
meeting not this Sunday, but the following Sunday, the 15th. And if
no one posts any further messages on this mailing list, I'll take that
silence as denoting consent, and I'll show up at the Wendy's (the
regular one, near the Blue Line station) on the 15th, and not on the
8th, hopefully you all will be there too on the 15th. And if someone
on this mailing list disagrees with that, then that's cool, and tell
us what you think.
