In case the question is asked out of a genuine desire to convert PostScript or PDF to GIF, perhaps an alternate path will be of interest.

The distribution-packaged versions of gs can produce output in PNG and TIFF.  Images in those formats can be converted to GIF using other tools, such as Image Magick's convert program.
