This (long) article is a nice primer on high frequency trading.  Even if
the finance aspects aren't esp. interesting to you, there is a discussion
of the different algorithims at work in markets today and how they
interact that I find fascinating.  Did we think when someone wrote "GOTO
Considered Harmful" that it would lead us to this path?

Also, the ending is a nice summary of the consequences of replacing humans
with human-led technology.  It wasn't novel, but nevertheless fascinating
to consider.
