[UFO Chicago] Cable modems

I have Comcrap as well. I haven't purchased a separate modem because Comcast
will only provide support for their modems. Having to deal with the
manufacturer myself, and the possibility of having to wait several business
days for a replacement (or pay a small fortune for overnite shipping) was
reason enough for me to keep renting their modem. Plus, if you purchase your
own, it would be giving Comcast an easy scapegoat. I am 100% positive they
would blame all connection issues on your "customer bought" modem and try to
dump you off on the manufacturer. When my cable modem got bricked after some
heavy lightning, I just went to a Comcast center, got a new modem and was
back online in less than 3 hours. It's a rip but it does have some benefits.
