[UFO Chicago] troubleshooting kernel panic

Trying to install Xubuntu 9.04 and I'm seeing:

"kernel panic not syncing attempted to kill init"

Looking for a nudge in the right direction.

The box is booting from the network and runs an install script (which works flawlessly on hundreds of other boxes). I've tried the onboard Intel PXE and booting from a gPXE CD, same result.

Three passes of memtest with no errors.

There is no BIOS update available.

Since there is no existing file system yet, how would I be able to capture the info on the screen ? Can I somehow redirect the output to a thumb drive ? This error happens pretty early in the script, before any kind of graphical interface loads and way before any kind of partitioning, so I'm guessing there are no error logs being saved to disk that I can look at ?

I think it's a hardware thing, but I haven't had much luck navigating any Linux HCLs ? Is there a "master" HCL out there somewhere ?

Any suggestions are welcome :-)
