We are currently looking for a Senior Linux Engineer for a trading firm in downtown Chicago. Our ideal candidate has a Bachelors degree in Computer Science or Engineering, or a combination of education and work experience equivalent; a minimum of 6 years administering Linux server systems; prior experience in geographically distributed environment consisting of 300+ servers; system design and architecture experience; Dell, HP/Compaq, Sun or IBM x86 server hardware experience.
The Senior Linux Engineer will be part of a team responsible for building, monitoring and maintaining the underlying systems of our trading environment. This position will have a heavy focus on the design and implementation of software and technology based primarily on a Linux platform. A crucial part of this position is the ability to translate the business’s stated needs into the hardware, software and network systems necessary to meet those needs in an expedient and supportable manner. The Senior Linux Engineer will be expected to be a subject matter expert on linux operating system issues. All members of the team contribute to provide day-to-day support, and this position is expected to provide a second and third level escalation point for software and operating system issues.
