[UFO Chicago] Geminid Spotting in Chicago...

Fellow sky watchers...

The Geminids radiate high from the southwest, but really, they can appear anywhere in the sky. Best times to catch a few is after midnight, when the Earth is facing into cold space and head-on into the debris field.

Even in the light polluted skies of Chicago, plenty bright and slow moving Geminids can be spotted with ease. This year a 1/4 moon will slightly interfere with spotting the fainter ones, but overall not hinder much. Sometimes if quiet enough, you can even hear them "crackle" as they burn up in our atmosphere.

Good luck in your observations!
