[UFO Chicago] (drm) exciting yet disappointing choice at CPL

Since DRM comes up often on list and at the meetings...

The Chicago Public Library has begun offering a new service that lets
users "check out" audio books from the library digitally. Instead of
having to return them, the content expires on the computer.

This is potentially pretty neat. The list of titles is more than your
usual copyright-expired group of books, and some I would genuinely want to
listen to.

Except:

 - it's Windows only, which is a serious failing. A lot of home users
don't run Windows.

 - it uses WMV, so it won't work on an iPod.

Ugh! How could you pick this and choose something that won't work for
majority of portable music devices!

Grumble, grumble, grumble,

brian
