Here are the lyrics, in Scottish on the left, and a lyrically consistant
english translation on the right.
I know some of the verses in English are not entirely demonstritivly
consistant with the scottish. The purpose was to retain the lyric
structure.
Auld Lang Syne Times Gone By
Should auld acquaintance be forgot Should old acquaintance be forgot
And never brought to mind? and never brought to mind?
Should auld acquaintance be forgot Should old acquaintance be forgot
And days of auld lang syne? And the days of times gone by?
Chorus:
For auld lang syne, my jo, For the times gone by, my dear,
For auld lang syne For the times gone by
We'll tak a cup o' kindness yet We'll dring a cup of kindness yet
For auld lang syne. For the times gone by.
And surely ye'll be your pint stoop And surely you're at your bar room
And surely I'll be mine And surely I'm at mine
And we'll tak a cup o' kindness yet And we'll share a cup of kindness yet
For auld lang syne. For the times gone by.
[chorus] [chorus]
We twa hae run about the braes We used to run about the hills
And pou'd the gowans fine And pull the daises fine
But we've wander'd mony a weary foot But we've wandered many a weary foot
Sin' auld lang syne. Since the times gone by.
[chorus] [chorus]
We twa hae paidl'd i' the burn We used to paddle in the streams
Frae mornin' sun till dine From morning sun till night
But seas between us braid hae roared But seas between us wide have roared
Sin' auld lang syne. Since the times gone by.
[chorus] [chorus]
And there's a hand, my trusty fiere And here's a hand, my trusty friend
And gi'e's a hand of thine And give a hand of thine
And we'll tak a right good willy And we'll have a drink to our good
waught will
For auld lang syne For the times gone by
