I missed the meeting, but I saw a Myth Busters (the TV show) where they 
tried lifting someone with regular baloons.  If memory serves me right 
-- and it often does not -- I think it took somewhere around 5000 to 
lift a 3-year-old child.  I suspect there were diminishing returns due 
to the increasingly long (and thus heavy) strings required.
