heh, nifty.  I went delving into the source code for 'ps'
and 'top'.  It's very...um...enlightening...  In a scary
sort of way.  My code parses /proc/PID/stat, which works in
linux.  I know Solaris also has a /proc interface.  The
Linux interface is marginally documented in the 'ps' code.
