For those who missed him the first time around, Jono Watterson is
speaking (again) at Loyola University on Monday.

The Loyola University Computer Science Department
is pleased to announce a talk

Shackled Speech and Robot Cops in the Digital Millennium

                     by Jonathan "jono" Watterson
                     Free Software Foundation

                        Monday, March 18, 2002, 7:00 PM
                    Loyola University Lakeshore campus

        Exact room will be announced at www.cs.luc.edu;
a notice will also be posted on the department door
(Damen Hall, 3rd floor, East end)

Watterson will be talking about
  * the DMCA [Digital Millenium Copyright Act]
  * the SSSCA [Security Systems Standards and Certification Act,
legislation sponsored by Sen Hollings that would outlaw
the sale of computers capable of copying CDs and DVDs]
  * how copyright is being used as a front for technology control
  * how and why these new laws disempower the consumer/citizens
        in favor of media corporations
  * how they cripple the independent arts
  * how & why Hollywood wants to neuter computers
  * what can be done about it.
"I want to bridge the geek/non-geek divide and bring in arts
enthusiasts as well as computer & math folks."

The Free Software Foundation is the GNU in GNU/Linux. It exists to
develop and promote software that is free from proprietary licenses
and corporate controls. It supports Watterson's work as activist
against the DMCA and SSSCA, which work will benefit both the Free
and proprietary software worlds.
