Thursday night was UFO Chicago Night at George's
             and here is a report:
	     ---------------------

Well, the night started early -- 8:00, with me sitting down to a
cuppacoffee at George's and pulling out my Visor in order to do some
degeneracy beta testing -- for the record, you really need to overclock
pilot-frotz to get a decent framerate (har har). Although i definitely
found something this last time in the game that had previously eluded
me.

Not ten minutes after sitting in my booth, I saw a brown haired guy walk
by and suspiciously eye my Linux T-shirt (I figured that would be a dead
giveaway). It always takes longer than I expect to actually get into
George's (since you have to walk down the block to get in). But finally,
in walked UFO Chicago's guest of honor: Kiran!

Kiran sat down and we chatted for a long time about this'n that while we
waited for Jack Edwards to show. Topics discussed in differing amounts
of depth:

CASE MODIFICATIONS: Kiran and I think that Jack's laptop case could use
a shave. Flynn needs a second powersupply to take the diskdrive load off
the main ps. Jack and I have talked about this in the past -- just
haven't gotten around to it.

NAT/FIREWALL: Kiran KO-ed me for my lack of a firewall. This makes me
mad, becuase now I need to learn ipchains as well as iptables, just for
the sake of the knowledge and to salvage my own pride.

SCREEN/SUDO: I tried to teach Kiran about the glorious wonders of screen
and/or sudo, but Kiran seemed tentative.

BSD: Jack talked a bit about his experience thus far with BSD.

HURD: We asked ourselves, "Do we know anyone that actually RUNS HURD?"
"Is it even possible?" This makes me want to find out.

I'm sure there's more to right, but I drank so much coffee last night
that today my brain is in an oily stupor. Jack, Kiran, you're welcome to
contribute any more information you might have.

Our next meeting is in THREE WEEKS -- April 12th. We'd like to see more
folks there. Spread the word to your friends. FOr now I'd like to start
by poking each other's brains and getting ideas, but in the future, I'd
love to have people present on topics from shell scripting to
firewalling. We don't need big names to share with each other the
knowledge pile each of us has scraped together -- REMEMBER:

Hahahaha, just kidding.

Kiran, nice to have met you.

Yours,
pedro
