Markets are still closed. I've been in the basement all day, so I can't
say about air traffic. Public transportation is normal today. Gas is
more expensive (ride a bike!). A friend of mine in New York stood at the
end of his block and watched the second tower crumble. That's how he
described it... crumble.
One oddity: this morning I was out at the lake at 5:30 to watch the
sunrise. I heard planes flying over, which ordinarily wouldn't attract my
attention, but under the circumstances.... I looked up and saw a
commercial airliner escorted by three fighter jets. Either this is one of
the unaccounted planes from yesterday (highly unlikely) or a VIP flight.
That was at about 6:00 am.

I tried to email the Red Cross to find out where to go to donate blood,
but I haven't heard back. Does anyone know where I can go to do that?
Here are some quotes plucked from a thread on /.:
"No matter how long it may take us to overcome this premeditated invasion,
the American people in their righteous might will win though to absolute
victory.... ....with confidence in our armed forces - with the unbounding
determination of our people - we will gain the inevitable triumph - so
help us god."
- President Franklin D Roosevelt
December 8th, 1941
"I fear all we have done is to wake a sleeping giant, and fill him with a
terrible resolve."
Japanese Admiral Yamamoto
After attack on Pearl Harbor
"The world will note that the first atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima,
a military base..."
President Harry S Truman
"We're all sons of bitches now."
Scientific Director J. Robert Oppenheimer
of the Manhattan Project
Let's all hope we don't see a blow-by-blow repeat of history.
