Since Peter has posted the ultra-useful "flyering mini-HOWTO" and we
used it so effectively here in Seattle, I felt like I should give
something back to Chicago with my "Sandwich Board Recipie". Enjoy!
(And by the way, Sandwich Boards really do work!)
Sandwich Board recipie
What you need:
o Two pieces of stiff board. You can get a three-pack of foam board at
Office Depot for about $4.
o Some glue. The glue that comes in stick for worked well for me, it
was on sale for $0.35 at Office Depot. School paste would also work
well.
o Two pieces of rope. I used this double-sided velcro stuff.
o A word processor (Unix people can hack my banner PostScript template
with a text editor like emacs:
<http://woozle.org/~neale/src/banner.ps>. The text is at the bottom
of the file, very easy and quick to create banners.)
o A penknife
o A pair of scissors
First print up your text. You'll need two phrases: one for your front,
and one for your back. Think of something interesting, which briefly
states your point and makes people curious. I used "preserve your right
to read books in a library" and "reading is a right, not a feature".
I'll probably change the second one to something like "Help keep
libraries open". Make sure you use a big font, something big enough to
read from at least 20 feet away. Stick with Times or Helvetica (Arial
for you Windows people), everyone is familiar with these lettering
styles.
Cut out the words, and glue them to the board.
Make two slits in each of the boards where your shoulders would be.
Thread the rope/velcro through the slits and attach it to itself.
You're now ready to be a human sandwich!
Serves 1. Total preparation time: 10 minutes.
